Two months, multiple tournaments, outstanding results, Godfrey Okoye University debaters keep raising the bar.

For the past two months, students of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, have continued to record remarkable achievements in both national and international debate and public speaking competitions, further strengthening the university’s growing reputation as a hub for excellence in intellectual discourse.

At the Kampala Open 2026 Debate Tournament, which featured universities from Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, Godfrey Okoye University recorded impressive performances across multiple categories. In the public speaking event, Ajoiyi Kosisochukwu and Ifeanyi Kamsiyochukwu advanced to the semi-finals, while Egbogu Favour reached the quarter-finals.

In the debate segment (Open Category), Chinedu Ogbonna Donald and Adibo Tiffany made history as the first Godfrey Okoye University team to compete in the Open Category and successfully reach the semi-finals. The team broke at 12th position out of over 200 teams with 11 out of 15 points, highlighting the university’s strong presence at the international tournament. Ajoiyi Kosisochukwu further distinguished himself by emerging as the 5th Best Speaker at the tournament.

The university also recorded major achievements at the Royal Rhetorics Anniversary Cup. Ajoiyi Kosisochukwu and Njemanze Chiamaka, both of the Faculty of Law, made history as the first novice team to break into the finals, eventually emerging Second Best Team of the Tournament with their team “Olololoooo.” In the Open Category, Chinedu Ogbonna Donald and Egbogu Favour advanced to the quarterfinals. Individual recognitions at the tournament included Egbogu Favour as 5th Best Speaker, Ajoiyi Kosisochukwu as 6th Best Speaker, and Njemanze Chiamaka as 8th Best Speaker.

At the Hearts Affire Debate Tournament, Chinedu Ogbonna Donald also distinguished himself on the adjudication panel, emerging as the 4th Best Judge of the competition.

In another national contest, the International Law Students Association (ILA) Inter-School National Debate Competition 2026, Egbogu Favour progressed to the quarterfinal stage, further demonstrating his consistency across tournaments.

Additionally, at the Empire IV Debate, Chinedu Ogbonna Donald achieved an outstanding double honour, emerging as the Novice Champion and Final Best Speaker of the tournament.
