Godfrey Okoye University marked a significant milestone with its final common Midday Prayer for the session, serving as a powerful moment of reflection, gratitude, and administrative briefing as the academic year draws to a close.

During the Midday Prayer, the Vice-Chancellor expressed deep gratitude for the extraordinary blessings bestowed upon the university community. He specifically highlighted two major achievements that have defined this session: the landmark commissioning of the Center for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation (CeDFoCI) and the outstanding victories and exceptional performances of the university’s students in various national and international competitions.

The Vice-Chancellor went on to appreciate the university staff, paying particular tribute to the Works Unit for their unwavering commitment to keeping the university environment clean and pristine. He also extended his sincere appreciation to the parents for their dedication in paying fees and consistently catering to the well-being of their wards at Godfrey Okoye University.

As a practical reflection of these blessings, hard work and healthy living were heavily celebrated. Hostels and individual student rooms that demonstrated outstanding neatness throughout the session were officially recognized and rewarded with cleanliness awards to encourage a healthy campus environment.

In a standout moment of appreciation, the university management recognized the relentless efforts driving the institution’s recent competitive victories. As a reward for the remarkable success brought to the university, a car was officially presented to the Director of Competitions by the Vice Chancellor.

In receiving the keys, the director expressed profound appreciation to the vice-chancellor and the university, pledging an ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of competitive excellence.

As the session wraps up, the deans of the different faculties took turns to address the students, offering academic counsel and parting words of encouragement for the upcoming break. Following the deans, various principal officers and directors took the floor to deliver vital updates to the student body. The Vice-Chancellor announced that the next academic session will officially resume on October 6th. Noting that students will have a three-month holiday, he urged them to complete all necessary tasks during the break and return safely.

Following this, the University Librarian and focal person for mobilization, Associate Professor Juliana Iwu-James, addressed the final-year students with a crucial directive. She stated that filling out the Nigeria Education Repository Databank (NERD) form is strictly required, warning that failure to complete this form will stall their mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

The Director of Research and Ethics, Professor Chidi Uhuegbu, also addressed the students, announcing the specific date and time for an upcoming mandatory seminar on Research Ethics.

For entrepreneurship development, the Director of the Directorate of Entrepreneurship, Mr. Christopher Uwakwe spoke on the SAM program. He emphasized that the financial cost is secondary to the paramount value of student participation and real-world skill acquisition. To round out the academic briefs, the Director of General Studies (GST), Sister Dr. Lucy Umeh provided essential updates regarding the upcoming French and German language courses and examinations.

The midday prayer also served as a transition point for student leadership. Outgoing COHON President Miss Nma Aro delivered an emotional appreciation speech. Reflecting on a tenure that she described as strictly student-oriented rather than leadership-focused, she thanked the university management, the Vice-Chancellor, the directors, the student body, and the Works Unit for their immense support. She outlined the numerous milestones achieved during her administration, offered special thanks to her predecessors for their guidance, and presented an award of appreciation to her secretary for her unwavering support.

Concluding the student-led contributions, the outgoing Master and Miss GOUNI capped off their reign by donating vital equipment to the University Clinic, leaving a lasting legacy of service to the campus community.
