The Department of English and Literary Studies Education is one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising centres for educational research. We combine traditional pedagogy with cutting-edge explorations in digital literature, AI in education, classroom mental health, and cultural sustainability.

We are also proud to announce the launch of the Gouni Language Research Journal, a peer-reviewed platform for publishing original studies, critical essays, and innovative explorations in English, literature, pedagogy, and digital humanities. PROGRAMME DURATION

BA (Ed) English and Literary Studies Education: 4 years (UTME) / 3 years (Direct Entry).

  • Prof. Felicia Nnenna Ene

    Prof. Felicia Nnenna Ene is a distinguished scholar of Language and Education whose career spans over three decades in teaching, research, and educational leadership. Currently serving as Dean of the School of Languages, Arts, and Social Sciences at the Institute of Ecumenical Education, Enugu, and Head of the Department of Arts Education at Godfrey Okoye University, she has played a central role in shaping curriculum reform, language pedagogy, and educational policy within Nigeria.

  • Dr. Ogbonne Torty

    Dr. Ogbonne Torty is a distinguished scholar in English Education whose work bridges language pedagogy, folklore, applied linguistics, and moral instruction in literature classrooms. A graduate of Abia State University (B.A.Ed), she obtained her M.Ed and Ph.D. in English Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where she developed her expertise in collaborative learning methods and their impact on students’ achievement and interest in English.

  • Prof. Romanus N. Egudu

    Dr. Rosemary N. Ossai is a linguist and lexicographer whose scholarship bridges French language pedagogy, corpus linguistics, lexicography, and digital language tools. She earned her Ph.D. in French Language and an M.Sc. in French (Arts, Letters, Science of Languages), with extensive experience teaching both Anglophone and Francophone learners.

  • Dr. Veronica Egonekwu Mogboh

    Dr. Veronica Egonekwu Mogboh is a seasoned scholar and administrator in Educational Management. At Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, she lectures in courses such as Sociology of Education, Foundations of Education, and the Teaching Profession, with a strong emphasis on equipping future educators with practical insights into leadership, policy, and pedagogy.

  • Rev. Fr. Prof. Donatus Nwobodo

    Rev. Fr. Prof. Donatus Nwobodo is a renowned scholar and administrator in Educational Foundations and a respected Catholic priest. As Head of the Department of Educational Foundations at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, he has distinguished himself in scholarship, leadership, and mentorship, shaping generations of educators, researchers, and administrators.

  • Dr. Hilda Chineze Agusiobo

    Dr. Hilda Chineze Agusiobo is a distinguished lecturer in Educational Management at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu. She teaches courses such as Micro-Teaching and Special Methods, where she equips future educators with the practical skills and pedagogical strategies necessary for effective classroom delivery. In her role as Teaching Practice Coordinator, she provides hands-on mentorship to student-teachers, ensuring they successfully bridge the gap between theory and professional practice.

  • Dr. Alphonsus Onyeachonam Nwafor

    Dr. Alphonsus Onyeachonam Nwafor is a dedicated scholar in Political Science Education and Curriculum Studies and currently lectures at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu. He is recognized for his academic depth, research contributions, and commitment to training the next generation of educators and leaders.

  • Dr. Rosepetra Chiazokam Enekwe

    Dr. Rosepetra Chiazokam Enekwe is a lecturer in Curriculum Development at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, where she teaches curriculum-related courses to English Education students. Her research focuses on instructional media, innovative pedagogy, and student-centred curriculum design, with significant contributions to discourse on educational reform in Nigeria.

  • Dr. Chijioke Edward

    Dr. Chijioke Edward is a linguist and scholar of English whose work focuses on sociolinguistics, identity construction, discourse analysis, and media studies. He holds a Ph.D. in English and Literary Studies from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, along with an M.A. and B.A. in English and Literary Studies, and an NCE in English.

  • Prof. Regina O. Udaba

    Prof. Regina O. Udaba is a scholar of English language and literature with expertise in applied linguistics, stylistics, and literary discourse. She teaches courses in stylistics, linguistics, and language studies, and her scholarship engages topics such as Achebe’s poetry, child naming in Igbo society, linguistic analyses of Soyinka’s works, and cultural nuances in African and European literary traditions.

  • Prof. Michael Amadihe Ezugu, Ph.D

    Prof. Michael Amadihe Ezugu is a distinguished scholar of English language and literature and a revered mythologist in South Eastern Nigeria. He earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in English from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and furthered his training at the University of Stirling, Great Britain. Over the course of his career, he has served in various academic leadership roles at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, and the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, before joining Godfrey Okoye University.

  • Chukwuike JT

    is particularly interested in conflict discourses, and inter/multicultural contexts of medical communication, especially those that influence patient-centred doctoring or engender clinical conflicts.

  • Tochi Amara

    Tochi Amara holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in English and Literary Studies from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where she is currently pursuing her doctorate. She has been teaching since completing her first degree in 2005 and brings a strong passion for pedagogy alongside her academic expertise. Her work engages English Literature, Literary Theory, and World Literatures.

  • Chiamaka Chukwunwike

    She is a doctoral scholar at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with published articles in Okike: An African Journal of New Writing and the Journal of Performance Media and Humanities, among others. She currently serves as an Assistant Lecturer at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.

  • Dike Vivian Chioma

    Dike Vivian Chioma is a Nigerian scholar and doctoral student at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu. She holds a B.A. in English and Literary Studies from Madonna University, Elele, and an M.A. in English and Literary Studies from Rivers State University. Her research explores the intersections of language, digital humanities, and discourse, with a focus on how language shapes cultural narratives and digital communication.

  • Chizurum Rachel Ugwu

    Chizurum Rachel Ugwu joined Godfrey Okoye University as a Graduate Assistant in 2016 and became an Assistant Lecturer in 2021. She holds a B.A. in English and Literary Studies (Second Class Honours, Upper Division) and an M.A. in Literature (Distinction) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where she is currently pursuing her doctorate. Her master’s dissertation examined Solitude in Wole Soyinka’s The Interpreters.

  • Vitalis Chinemerem Iloanwusi

    Vitalis Chinemerem Iloanwusi is a Nigerian writer, literary activist, and emerging scholar whose work traverses trauma narratives, childhood suffering, race, creative pedagogy, and the healing power of literature. A first-class graduate of English and Literary Studies Education at Godfrey Okoye University, he writes across genres: fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, often centering broken children, segregated communities, and survivors of silence.
