Meet Princess Chinyere Ekwe, the brilliant mind who ruled the day as Godfrey Okoye University’s 2025 Vice-Chancellor for One Day!

In line with its culture of inspiring excellence and nurturing competitive spirit among students, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, has hosted the 2025 edition of its Vice-Chancellor for One Day programme.

During the celebration, the Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, revealed that Princess Chinyere Ekwe emerged as the 2025 Vice-Chancellor for One Day after a series of tests conducted for the five students who attained a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00 in the 2024/2025 academic session.

Reverend Father Professor Anieke explained that the initiative is designed to foster healthy academic competition and leadership consciousness among students. He reminded everyone that there are no anonymous students in the university, urging them to dream big, take positive actions, and build remarkable narratives.

The Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Lloyd Ekweremadu, who graced the occasion, commended Reverend Father Professor Anieke for instituting the remarkable programme. He noted that the university is cultivating a culture of excellence in leadership and expressed hope that the nation would emulate such transparent and merit-based selection processes in choosing its leaders.

In her speech, Miss Ekwe described her admission into Godfrey Okoye University as one of the greatest opportunities of her life, an experience she would always treasure.

The Head of the Department of Economics, Dr. Modesta Iduma described Miss Ekwe as intelligent, determined, and purpose-driven, noting that she had brought pride and visibility to the department. Similarly, the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, Associate Professor John Odoh, highlighted the faculty’s consistent record of excellence, pointing out that it has produced the Vice-Chancellor for One Day three times and continues to lead in first-class and overall best graduate achievements.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the South-East area Director of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs. Chinyere Ekwe expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university for the honour bestowed on her daughter, describing it as a memory they would forever cherish.

During her one-day tenure, Miss Ekwe presided over a special session of the University Senate, addressing student-related matters, and later paid a courtesy visit to the Enugu State Government House, where she was warmly received by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, on behalf of the Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah.

Earlier, she had addressed pupils and students of the Godfrey Okoye University Nursery, Primary, and Secondary Schools, inspiring them to pursue academic excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor for One Day was accorded the full protocol, security detail, and privileges of the office throughout her tenure, which lasted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As part of the celebration, monetary awards were presented to all students who achieved a perfect CGPA of 5.00, namely Ogadimma Samuel Ogochukwu, Ogbu Esther Kenechukwu, Okpala Amalachi Pascaline, and Ozoude Reuben Chukwuebuka, with Princess Chinyere Ekwe emerging as the 2025 Vice-Chancellor for One Day.

In addition, the Student Council of Honour for the 2025–2026 academic session was officially unveiled by the Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, further demonstrating the university’s commitment to recognizing and empowering exceptional students.
