A WAKE-UP CALL FOR CHANGE

Day Two of the Synod offered thoughtful reflections on evangelisation, social responsibility, and the future of the Church.

Cardinal John Onaiyekan opened the day by reminding the Church that true evangelisation is lifelong learning and mission beyond the classroom.

Bishop Ernest Obodo followed, urging the Church to grow into a fully self-reliant community through sacrifice and shared responsibility.

Rev. Msgr. Obiora Ike called for a revival of social welfare systems, from health insurance and skills centres to elderly care, as practical steps toward building a self-sustaining Church.

Governor Peter Mbah highlighted Enugu’s rising economic profile and challenged the Church to mentor young people, defend the vulnerable, and help drive a productive society.

Archbishop Anthony Obinna addressed the long-standing Osu/Ohu system, condemning the discrimination it creates and calling for equality in marriage, leadership, and land ownership.

Rev. Sr. Jude-Theresa Nwodo drew attention to the needs of the elderly and people with disabilities, urging compassion and stronger pastoral structures.

Emeritus Bishop Anthony Gbuji wrapped up the day, stressing the importance of deeper catechesis and renewed pastoral commitment for stronger evangelisation.

The Church must renew its mission; teaching, serving, and building a just, compassionate society.
