14 New Priests Ordained as the Fourth Synod of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu Ends

The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has ordained 14 new priests, marking the end of its one-week Fourth Synod. The ordination was conducted by the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, His Grace Most Reverend Michael Francis Crotty, and attended by key Church leaders, government representatives, traditional rulers, and the Chairman of the Synod Planning Committee and Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke.

In his homily, the Apostolic Nuncio reminded the new priests that their calling is from God and urged them to preach reconciliation with Christ rather than seek earthly recognition or material gain. He encouraged them to work in communion with their Bishops and priests, avoid distractions, and uphold the dignity of their ministry, especially in the way they raise funds during Mass.

Reverend Father Professor Anieke revealed that the Synod featured 20 research papers and seven interventions addressing issues affecting the Church. He noted the Diocese’s steady growth, including its mission schools, university, teaching hospital, and new evangelization channels such as online Masses, publications, and the planned Radio Maria.

The Synod resolutions called on security agencies to remain committed to protecting lives and property, and urged community and public leaders to promote reconciliation and uphold their oaths of office.

Bishop Callistus Onaga, in his vote of thanks, commended the planning committee and expressed gratitude for the increasing number of priests in the Diocese.

Earlier in the Synod, Reverend Father Benjamin Achi of Godfrey Okoye University cautioned Nigerians against believing everything on social media, urging the public to verify information, especially with the rise of AI-generated content.
