Intellectual rigour in action: Vice-Chancellor Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke inaugurates high-level policy committee.

The Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke has inaugurated a high-level committee to review and evaluate the manifesto of the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Thinker’s Corner Campus I, formally constituted the Committee on the Anniversary of the Presentation of the Governor’s Manifesto in Godfrey Okoye University. The event marked a significant step in strengthening the relationship between academia and public policy, as the university positions itself as a critical stakeholder in governance and development discourse.

In his remarks, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anieke emphasized the university’s responsibility not only to disseminate knowledge but also to actively engage in societal transformation. He noted that universities must serve as think tanks that critically assess policies, track implementation, and provide evidence-based recommendations that promote good governance.

The Committee has been given clear terms of reference. It is mandated to review the manifesto delivered by the Governor, liaise with His Excellency to critically analyze the manifesto within the context of its implementation and policy framework, and develop a comprehensive scorecard based on measurable indicators and outcomes. Additionally, the Committee will identify and document key milestones achieved from the manifesto and highlight as well as evaluate the challenges associated with its implementation.

The Committee is chaired by Dr. Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, with the following distinguished members: Prof. Dr. Modesta Egiyi, Prof. Dr. Sergius N. Udeh, Prof. Dr. Lucy Onyekwelu, Prof. Dr. Ekene Osuji, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi, Mr. Christopher Uwakwe, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, and Mrs. Chinyere Anieze. The Registrar, Dr. Peace Chidi Ike, serves as Secretary to the Committee.

Members, drawn from diverse academic and administrative backgrounds, expressed readiness to undertake the assignment with diligence and integrity. The inauguration concluded with a charge from the Vice-Chancellor for the Committee to uphold transparency, professionalism, and scholarly excellence as they commence their work.

Through this initiative, Godfrey Okoye University once again demonstrates its role as a center for policy engagement, critical inquiry, and sustainable development in Enugu State and beyond.
