Enugu Bishops Bless New DNA Forensics Centre at Godfrey Okoye University

The Bishops of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, led by Most Rev. Callistus Valentine Onaga and Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Ernest Obodo, on Monday, March 23, 2026, blessed the newly established Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation (CeDFoCI) at the DNA Learning Center Nigeria, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.

The bishops were warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, alongside the Deputy Director of DNALC Nigeria, Mr. Michael Okoro, and members of staff.

During the visit, the bishops were taken on a guided tour of the state-of-the-art facility, showcasing its advanced capabilities in DNA profiling, paternity testing, forensic analysis, education, and research.

The event also featured a virtual address by the Chairman of the Board and Director of DNALC Nigeria, Prof. George Ude, who joined from the United States, expressing gratitude for the prayers and continued support toward the centre’s vision.

In his remarks, Bishop Onaga commended Prof. Ude for his commitment and leadership in advancing the project.

This blessing marks a major step toward the official launch of the Centre, which is poised to become a leading hub for forensic innovation, DNA analysis training, and cutting-edge research in Nigeria and beyond.

The Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation aims to strengthen evidence-based forensic services and promote the use of science in advancing truth and justice in society.
