Dear Students and Staff,
As part of our monthly cybersecurity awareness campaign, June focuses on Data Protection and Privacy.
Every day, members of our university community create, access, share, and store information. This includes student records, academic work, research data, staff information, financial records, and other sensitive documents.
Protecting this information is important because data breaches can affect individuals, departments, and the university as a whole.
How Students Can Help
* Keep your portal and email passwords secure
* Avoid sharing personal information unnecessarily
* Be cautious when using public computers or shared devices
* Verify websites before entering your credentials
* Think carefully before uploading documents to AI tools or online platforms
How Staff Can Help
* Handle student and staff information responsibly
* Verify recipients before sending emails and attachments
* Use approved university systems for storing sensitive information
* Protect confidential academic and administrative records
* Follow university policies on data protection and information security
A Reminder About AI Tools
Artificial Intelligence tools are becoming increasingly common in education and research. While they can be helpful, users should exercise caution when uploading information.
Please do not upload confidential university information, examination materials, student records, financial information, or sensitive research data to AI platforms unless expressly authorized by the university.
Report Incidents Promptly
If you accidentally share confidential information, lose a device containing university data, or suspect a data breach, report it immediately to the GOUNI ICT Cybersecurity Awareness Unit
