The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, has described the Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Frank Akpuaka, as a scholar of international repute whose contributions to medicine continue to shape both present and future generations.
This commendation came during the presentation of the book Basic Principles and Practice of Surgery by Professor Akpuaka to the University Management at the Teaching Hospital Library, Enugu. Professor Akpuaka, who served as Editor-in-Chief, shared that the book, described as a national treasure by the Honourable Minister of Education was the product of collaboration among 32 professors across various medical specialties. The project, which began in 2019, was officially launched on March 11, 2026, with copies now available in the Teaching Hospital Library for student use.
Receiving the book on behalf of the University Library, Associate Professor Juliana Iwu-James expressed sincere gratitude and called for its proper and impactful use by students and staff.
For many of the 400-level medical students present, the moment was both inspiring and reassuring. They expressed appreciation to the University Management and the Provost for providing not just facilities, but the right tools, mentorship, and environment to excel. They also pledged to make the most of these opportunities.
