Godfrey Okoye University Inaugurates Governing Board of Teaching Hospital

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of Godfrey Okoye University, Professor Bartho Okolo, has inaugurated members of the Board of Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital, marking a major step in strengthening the institution’s governance, medical training, and healthcare delivery.

The newly inaugurated Board is chaired by former Deputy Chancellor of Austria, Mr. Wilhelm Molterer, and comprises distinguished professionals and leaders, including the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke; Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Frank Apkuala; Chief Medical Director of GOUNITH, Prof. Dr. Amechi U. Katchy; Honourable Commissioner for Health, Enugu State, Prof. George Ugwu; Chief Executive Officer, Juhel Group of Companies, Dr. Ifeanyi Okoye; Group Chairman, OAS Helicopters, Captain Everest Nnaji; and Dr. Leila Madueke, MBBS, MBA, MPH, D.Mgt. The Registrar of Godfrey Okoye University, Dr. Peace Chidi Ike will serve as Secretary of the Board.

Speaking during the inauguration at the Teaching Hospital’s Conference Room, Professor Okolo expressed appreciation to members of the board for accepting the call to serve, noting that their wealth of experience would greatly enhance the development of the Teaching Hospital. He recalled the transformation of the hospital from the former Ntasi-Obi Specialist Hospital and stated that the board would oversee the hospital’s general development, including recruitment of professional staff and the provision of services that meet international standards.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, commended Mr. Wilhelm Molterer for accepting to chair the board and for working towards connecting the university with Austrian hospitals. He disclosed that over one billion naira has been invested in upgrading facilities, procuring standard equipment, and constructing new structures, adding that Godfrey Okoye University is among the few private universities in Nigeria with its own teaching hospital.

Mr. Wilhelm Molterer, in his acceptance speech, described the hospital as a pillar of excellence in healthcare development, medical education, and research. He pledged to work closely with management and stakeholders to strengthen governance, promote accountability, and ensure that excellence remains the hallmark of the institution.

Other board members, in their respective acceptance speeches, pledged their commitment to attracting meaningful development to the hospital and ensuring that the board’s objectives are fully achieved.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with a guided tour of the hospital’s facilities by members of the board.
