GOUNI’s Egbogu Favour Ogechukwu crowned Winner and Best Speaker of Let’s Speak Women Open 2026.

Godfrey Okoye University continues to solidify its reputation as a rising force in global intellectual competitions, following a series of outstanding performances by its students across multiple international platforms.

At the Let’s Speak Women Open, an annual global public speaking tournament that attracted over 1,000 participants from countries such as India, Ghana, and South Africa, the university recorded a historic breakthrough. The competition, themed around Climate Change, featured a demanding format that required participants to craft and submit speeches within minutes, testing not only eloquence but also speed and composure.

Amidst this highly competitive field, Egbogu Favour Ogechukwu delivered a phenomenal performance. With an average preliminary score of 81.25, she emerged as the first breaking speaker, earning the title of Best Speaker of the Tournament. She went on to advance through the outrounds and was ultimately crowned Public Speaking Champion by a unanimous decision of the judging panel. This achievement marks the first-ever public speaking trophy for Godfrey Okoye University. In recognition of her excellence, she was awarded a fully funded scholarship for a public speaking program.

Also making the university proud was Amarachi Judith Ojiakor, who broke as the 9th best speaker, securing a double victory for the institution.

The university’s dominance extended further to the International Women Debate Open (IWDO) 2026, organized by the Baseline Orators Network from March 6th to 8th. Once again, Egbogu Favour Ogechukwu stood out, finishing as 3rd Runner-Up in Public Speaking with a score of 78.5 after a closely contested 3–2 split decision. She also ranked 7th among the Top 10 Best Debate Speakers, showcasing her versatility across both disciplines.

Ajoiyi Kosisochukwu Priscilla delivered an exceptional all-round performance, emerging 3rd among the Top 10 Public Speakers and securing the position of 5th Best Debate Speaker, reflecting remarkable consistency and eloquence.

In the same competition, Ojiako Judith Amarachi distinguished herself by finishing 5th among the Top 10 Public Speakers, while Ifeanyi Kamsi Best also earned international recognition, placing 8th among the Top 10 Public Speakers. Together, their performances highlighted the depth of talent within the university’s debating and public speaking community.

The wave of success continued with the release of the African Novice Tournament scorecard, where Godfrey Okoye University proudly broke in every category, a testament to the strength, discipline, and consistency of its representatives.

Leading this charge was Chinedu Ogbonna Donald, who advanced to the finals as an adjudicator and secured a place among the Top 3 adjudicators of the tournament. In Public Speaking, Ifeanyi Kamsiyochukwu, Egbogu Favour, and Aniakor Chidiogo Callista delivered commendable performances. In Debate, Njemanze Chiamaka, Onyia Freda, and swing speaker Aguigwo Gerald ensured a strong showing for the university.

In recognition of these remarkable achievements, the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University hosted a special reception for the Director of Competitions, Mrs Uchanta Chukwu, alongside the debaters and public speakers, including the African Novice Tournament representatives.

During the reception, the Vice-Chancellor praised the students for representing the university with excellence on international stages. He emphasized that beyond winning trophies, they are building strong résumés and gaining invaluable experiences that will set them apart in their future careers. He reiterated the university’s commitment to supporting students to excel in all spheres of life and rewarded the participants with cash prizes in recognition of their achievements.

These collective successes underscore a powerful narrative, one of preparation, resilience, and excellence.
