The Omnium Sanctorum Chaplaincy of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu joined the global Church to celebrate the Feast of Christ the King with a Holy Mass and a grand procession from the chaplaincy to Okpara Square.
During the celebration, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, reminded the faithful that the real challenge facing Nigeria is Nigerians themselves, noting that every nation gets the leaders it deserves.
In his homily, he emphasized that Jesus Christ remains the perfect model of kingship because he lived in truth. He explained that the Feast of Christ the King marks the end of the Church’s liturgical year and reaffirms Christ as King of the universe.
Reverend Father Anieke highlighted that God’s leadership differs completely from human leadership, and that God looks at the soul rather than outward appearances. Speaking on Nigeria’s political landscape, he warned against election rigging and urged Nigerians to avoid voting out of fear or material inducement. He remained confident that the person who will truly transform Nigeria will come from within the country.
He encouraged the congregation to reflect Christian values in their daily lives and interactions.
The celebration concluded with prayers at Okpara Square, joined by faithful from other parishes across Enugu.
