From the DNA Lab to the Lake: A visit to remember.
St Michael De Arch Angel College, Enugu, paid an educational visit to Godfrey Okoye University Main Campus last week in what turned out to be an inspiring and insightful excursion.
The students were warmly received on arrival by the Director of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, who served as their guide throughout the visit. Their first stop was the DNA Learning Centre and the yet-to-be commissioned Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation (CEDFOCI), located within the Science City Complex. They also toured the fisheries section.
At CEDFOCI, the lab manager, Mr. Victor Abba received the students and walked them through practical DNA laboratory processes and crime scene forensic procedures, giving them a rare opportunity to see science beyond the classroom.
The Faculty Officer of the College of Medicine, Ms. Chinonso Obi welcomed them to the Biochemistry and Anatomy laboratories, where they gained further exposure to medical science facilities and learning environments.
One of the highlights of the excursion was their visit to the University Lake, where the Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, received them personally. He shared the history of the university and spoke about its expansive hectare landmass, its distinction as the only private university in Nigeria with a functioning teaching hospital, and its two natural lakes, among other milestones. He also engaged the students in an interactive question-and-answer session that left them enlightened and motivated.
The Deputy Director of the DNA Learning Centre, Mr. Michael Okoro rounded off the academic experience with a simple but impactful lesson on DNA, breaking down complex concepts into relatable explanations for the visiting students.
On behalf of St Michael De Arch Angel College and the Proprietor, Mrs. Agu Ukamaka Martina, Mr. Davis Chukwuebuka delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the university for the warm reception and enriching experience.
It was indeed a memorable educational visit, strengthening the bond between both institutions and inspiring the next generation of scholars.
