The ultimate campus clash: Celebrating the rich diversity, culture, and academic brilliance of GOUNI students!

The vibrant energy of unity and healthy rivalry filled the air as Godfrey Okoye University kicked off its highly anticipated 2026 Unity Week Celebration.

Following an opening Mass on Sunday, the main festivities hit top gear with a colourful Faculty Day celebration at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena at Thinkers Corner, Enugu.

Hosted by the Students Council of Honour, the Four-day event is designed to foster deep social, cultural, and intellectual integration among students across all departments. The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, spoke warmly at the arena, showering praise on the student leadership and the Director of the Directorate of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, for executing a flawlessly coordinated opening day. He initially urged every student to dive headfirst into the spirit of the celebration as the games commenced.

The opening day featured a thrilling mix of brainpower and entertainment, ranging from intense public speaking to a fast-paced eating competition. The students brought their absolute best, and the results across the categories shook up the leaderboard:

The Debate Competition: Formed the financial highlight of the day, with the winning duo of Aguigwu Gerald and Chukwunta Stephanie walking away with a grand prize of N100,000, followed by the teams of Egbogu Favour and Julius Gift N75,000, and Ajoiyi Kosisochukwu and Ifeayi Kamsiyoochukwu 50,000.

Faculty of Law: Dominated the flagship events, securing first place in the Inter-Faculty Parade and winning the high-stakes Quiz Competition.

Faculty of Computer Science: Proved to be a powerhouse of quick wit and rhythm, sweeping the Word Game, Puzzle, and Rap Battle categories.

Faculty of Medicine and Surgery: Crushed the Public Speaking Competition, with Nwankwo Ebubechukwu taking the crown and Aniekwe Belicia finishing as the first runner-up. They also pocketed the Tossing the Die challenge.

Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences (NASES): Claimed the ultimate bragging rights in the crowd-favorite Eating Competition.

The arena was packed with support from the university’s top management, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellors Administration, Prof. SergiusUdeh, the Registrar, Dr Peace Ike, the University Librarian, Ass. Pro. JulianaIwu-James, the University Bursar, Prof. Modesta Egiyi, and the Dean of Student Affairs.

Following the intense matchups, the Vice-Chancellor officially declared the competitions closed after announcing the final results, capping off a successful showcase of talent, friendship, and a strong sense of community at Godfrey Okoye University.
