Out of 600 teams, only 11 made the final and Godfrey Okoye University stood tall as the only private university in the Top 11.

The Governor of Peter Mbah has described the Enugu Campus Hackathon as a practical demonstration of his administration’s resolve to reposition the state from a consumption-based economy to one driven by productivity and innovation. The grand finale, held at the International Conference Centre, brought together policymakers, investors, and young innovators from across the state.

Representing the Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, noted that the hackathon is a structured, state-backed innovation pipeline designed to identify promising talents in tertiary institutions and refine their ideas into scalable enterprises.

The Convener of the Campus Hackathon and Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Economy and MSMEs, Arinze Chilo Offiah, emphasized that the initiative goes beyond a competition. According to him, it is deliberately built to nurture high-potential talent, provide mentorship, and prepare startups for market readiness and access to capital under the state’s broader digital transformation agenda.

For Godfrey Okoye University, it was a proud moment.

Out of over 600 registered teams, only eleven made it to the final stage, and Godfrey Okoye University stood out as the only private university in the Top 11 alongside ESUT and UNN, with Team Titan flying the institution’s flag high. The team pitched bold, tech-driven solutions aimed at transforming key sectors of the economy, reflecting the university’s growing culture of innovation and enterprise.

The Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Christian Anieke, served as one of the judges at the finale, the only Vice-Chancellor on the panel of seasoned technocrats  further underscoring the university’s leadership in academic and innovation circles.

Also present were the Director of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu; the Director of Entrepreneurship, Mr. Christopher Uwakwe; and the ICT Manager, Mr. Lucky Azike, all lending their support to the student innovators.

As Enugu State deepens its digital economy agenda, Godfrey Okoye University continues to demonstrate that it is not just participating in the innovation conversation. It is helping to shape it.
