Strengthening Global Ties: GO University Showcases Africa’s Leading DNA Centre

Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, recently hosted international partners and benefactors for a tour of the institution’s state-of-the-art DNA Centre in Ugwuomu Nike. Led by the university’s Foreign Liaison Officer, Ms. Meggy Kantert, the delegation, explored a facility that is currently regarded as the largest of its kind in Africa.

Laboratory Manager Mr. Victor Abba guided the visitors through the facility, highlighting how the centre bridges the gap between theory and practice. The facility is entirely solar-powered, ensuring an eco-friendly, uninterrupted 24-hour workflow. It is equipped with modern, fully automated technology tailored to meet the evolving needs of society, ranging from academic research to high-level forensics.

Beyond its academic role, the centre maintains a strategic partnership with the Enugu State Government to assist in crime prevention and is actively seeking collaborations with health agencies for disease surveillance. The wide range of specialized services offered includes DNA profiling, paternity testing, forensic analysis, facial recognition technology, and disease tracking.

Visitors, including Ms. Claudia Kaminski of Radio Vatican and Rev. Fr. George shared their admiration for both the professional staff and the high-caliber equipment. Beyond the science, the delegation expressed deep appreciation for the vibrant culture and hospitality of Enugu, affirming their commitment to long-term collaboration with Godfrey Okoye University. This visit marks a significant milestone in the university’s mission to foster global partnerships while providing world-class scientific solutions in Nigeria.
