Anchored in God’s presence: Highlights from the beautiful Ascension Day celebration at Thinkers Corner, Enugu.

Godfrey Okoye University has been described as more than just a centre for academic excellence but an institution that serves as a tangible pathway to heaven.

The Vice Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke shared this profound reflection during a Holy Mass commemorating the Ascension of the Lord, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena. In his homily, the Vice Chancellor described the university as a reflection of the Kingdom of God on earth, emphasizing that both staff and students are nurtured here to live lives worthy of eternity.

Fr. Prof. Anieke explained that the university intentionally creates an environment where individuals can encounter God daily. Through active participation in spiritual activities, including daily masses, the institution balances intellectual growth with deep spiritual development. He encouraged the university community to maintain a strong faith, pray sincerely, and always remain conscious of God’s abiding presence.

In a moving segment of the homily, the Vice Chancellor paid a glowing tribute to the late Arc. Juliet Atuegbu, a university lecturer who recently passed away. Commending her unwavering dedication to her duties and her positive impact on the campus, Fr. Prof. Anieke described her as a shining example of service, expressing faith that she is already resting as a saint in heaven.

As the service drew to a close, the Vice Chancellor reminded both students and staff that everyone would ultimately give an account of their earthly journey before God. He urged the community to take full advantage of the university’s spiritual programs, to live exemplary lives, and to trust that God’s favor will follow them long after they leave the halls of Godfrey Okoye University.
