Good Friday stands as a defining pillar of the Christian faith, inviting believers into a space of deep contemplation on the mystery of Christ’s death.
At the Omnium Sanctorum Chaplaincy, Thinkers’ Corner, Enugu, the Director of the Directorate of Spirituality and Interreligious Dialogue, Rev. Fr. Theophilus Ndulue, reminded the faithful of the profound meaning behind this day. He explained that the “Good” in Good Friday signifies the transformative power of Christ’s sacrifice, a death that ultimately brought life and eternal salvation to humanity.
Fr. Ndulue emphasized that the only fitting response to such an immense sacrifice is a life of gratitude expressed through service. He challenged Christians to extend love and selflessness to one another, viewing their own lives as an invitation to sacrifice for the good of others.
The day’s observances were marked by several moving moments:
The Passion of Christ: Members of the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON) and the Nigeria Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS) brought the scriptures to life through a dramatic reenactment of the Passion during the Stations of the Cross.
Veneration of the Cross: In a solemn climax to the service, the congregation gathered to venerate the Holy Cross, a direct and personal encounter with the symbol of our redemption.
Looking forward to the joy of the Resurrection, Fr. Ndulue encouraged the faithful to prepare themselves holistically, keeping their souls, bodies, and surroundings clean.
In a practical demonstration of this preparation, members of the chaplaincy were invited to participate in the Holy Saturday sanitation exercise to ensure the church and its environment in readiness for the Easter celebration.
